Buffelsdrift is situated 7 km’s from Oudtshoorn, en route to the Cango caves. Accommodation consists of 25 luxury tents overlooking the natural waterhole. They offer bush safaris, an elephant experience and horse riding. The property consists of 3 000 ha and includes mountain zebra, hippo, springbuck, black wildebeest, gemsbok, giraffe, reedbuck and a variety of birdlife.

On arrival, we were taken to our tent by golf cart from the public parking area, tents can’t be reached with your own vehicle. Tents consist of 1 or 2 small patios, one with loungers overlooking the dam, a spacious bedroom, and spacious bathroom with free standing bath, double basin, toilet & bidet with an outside shower. Tents have aircon, mini bar, mini safe, small desk and international plugs. Quality linen and fluffy towels completes the picture of comfort and style.

Our late afternoon bush safari exceeded expectations. It is more than a game drive; the field guides also convey interesting facts on fauna & flora. Our field guide, Sonja, only started a few weeks ago at Buffelsdrift and conducted her task with passion and a ladies touch – most enjoyable and in my opinion her male colleagues will have to work hard to keep up with her. We had an awesome experience, getting very close to 3 giraffe and I have never encountered a giraffe lying down in the bush.

One of the challenges whilst being on holiday is not to indulge in too much food and drink, thus I decided on a salad: Wood fired masala chicken breast salad with hanepoot preserve & mango masala dressing complimented with mango, sundried tomato, ginger, red onion with creamed lime coriander yogurt on a bed of toasted cous cous and fresh garden greens. My partner ordered the 200g flamed fillet, stuffed with peppadew and camembert, complimented with beetroot mash, green peppercorn and peppadew chutney and caramalised red cabbage. Both main dishes were well presented and delicious with an interesting combination of flavours.
